Norway’s Ambassador Angell-Hansen appointed Honorary Dean of The Geneva School of Diplomacy & International Relations

GSD announced today “with very great pleasure” the appointment as its honorary Dean of the Geneva School of Diplomacy & International Relations (for 2011) of Her Excellency Bente Angell-Hansen, Ambassador of Norway to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva. The Ambassador will serve GSD through 31 December 2011. Ambassador Angell-Hansen joined the Norwegian Foreign Ministry in 1982. She served as Deputy Under Secretary of State in the Office of the Prime Minister of Norway from 2000 to 2005.  Ambassador of Norway to Hungary from 2005 to 2007, she was appointed Norway’s Ambassador in Geneva from 2008.

Ambassador Angell-Hansen comes to her new position with a widely admired reputation for her special interest and warm concern for students and young people. Her concern for the individual and for his/her growth and education is well known. Among her many duties, she is very active in the UN Human Rights Council where she is seen as one of the Council’s most stalwart champions of human rights.

Joining GSD as Dean, Ambassador Angell-Hansen describes her appointment as “exciting”. President of GSD, Dr Murphy, says “GSD is truly both pleased and privileged to have Ambassador Angell-Hansen with us for that really ‘exciting’ year ahead”.
The Ambassador is married to a medical doctor and has grown-up children.
