Workshop


On August 27, 2010, The Geneva School of Diplomacy had the great honour to receive 22 students and Prof. Désirée M. van Gorp from the Nyenrode Business University, The Netherlands.

The main subject of the one day interactive workshop focused on the theme of “Politics and International Trade”. The workshop was divided in three sessions according to three guest speakers. The first speaker Mr Vinod Rege, a Geneva-based Multilateral Trade Advisor of the Commonwealth Secretariat. He is responsible for providing assistance and advice to the delegations from Commonwealth Developing Countries on issues under discussion and negotiation at the WTO. In fact, for Mr Rege the main objective of his presentation was to provide a basis for discussions on how far decisions affecting international trade taken by countries are influenced by political consideration.

The second guest speaker, his H.E. Ambassador Akram, Ambassador from Pakistan to the United Nations and other international organizations here in Geneva, provided crucial information to the students regarding the catastrophic situation that is affecting his country as a direct result of the recent floods.

The final speaker of the day, Ms Meg Jones, who is the special advisor the Office of the Executive Director of the International Trade Centre in Geneva, facilitated a session on the role of Women in International Trade.
